The amiibo that will be compatible come from the Super Smash Bros., Splatoon, Animal Crossing, Super Mario Bros. and Yoshi’s Woolly World sets.

In addition, the two 30th Anniversary 8-bit Mario amiibo will be compatible with Super Mario Maker as well. These anniversary amiibo make Mario gigantic when tapped to the Wii U GamePad.

Most other amiibo will end up giving you custom sprites within any Super Mario Maker level. This means that you can play through your favorite levels as Link, or even the Wii Fit Trainer.

However, these sprites can be unlocked in-game if you do not own a certain figure.

It will be interesting how much Super Mario Maker will drive amiibo sales. I already have too many amiibo, but I am very interested in one of those super rad 30th Anniversary Mario figures.

But the real question is this: Does Super Mario Maker offer substantial enough amiibo support? Are sprites enough? Let us know in the comments!
